Life Legacy
Jean E. Allen of Dover went home to be with the Lord Sunday March 20, 2011 in her daughter’s home. She was 84.
Jean was born February 25, 1927 in Dover, Delaware to the late William Gonce and Viola Waters Gonce.
She was employed at Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna as a nurse’s aide and retired after 17 years of service to be a homemaker. Jean has touched the lives of many and has been a pillar of strength and support to many generations of her family. She is loved and will be missed. The Lord was her refuge, strength, and support and she called upon Him, unto her last breath.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert P. Allen in 1987; three children, Ellsworth Allen in 1986, Louise Kurtz in 1998, and Christine Mahaffey in 2009; and a granddaughter Deloris Mahaffey in 1999.
She is survived by her children, Jean and Willard Brown, Roger and Ruthann Cahall, Ralph, Jr. and Levore Cahall and Francis Allen; step daughter, Sharon “Bootsie” Moore; eleven grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Thursday March 24, 2011 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
