Life Legacy
Isabella Friel Wilson, 98, of Middletown, formerly of Rehoboth Beach Delaware and New Port Richey, Florida, died peacefully February 25, 2011. Mrs. Wilson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, January 1, 1913, the eldest daughter of James Friel and Lydia Friel West, and for 68 years was the wife of the late Thomas J. Wilson. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Lampone, and brother, James Friel.
In 1938, she and her husband moved to Newark, Delaware, where they were employed at the Danita Hosiery Mill. In 1950, they settled in Mayview Manor, New Castle, where together they opened Wilson’s Market, which they operated for twenty-five years. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE; whereby, they split their time between Rehoboth and Florida. About five years ago she moved to Middletown to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was a lifetime member of the Holloway Terrace Volunteer Fire Company #20, Ladies Auxiliary, New Castle, and a member of the Delaware First State Club of Florida.
Devoted to her family, she treasured her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the slots, and she was an avid bingo player. She also enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and Nancy Grace and attending dinner-dances at the Modern Maturity Center.
She will be greatly missed by the many friends she has made throughout the years in both Delaware and Florida.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Nancy W. Cook of Kenton and Joan Lydia and James “Casey” Maxwell of Middletown; grandchildren, Thomas J. Cook and his wife Beth of Kenton, Stacey Maxwell Jones and her husband Trevor of Berlin, Maryland and J. Brian Maxwell and his wife Carrie of Bear; great grandchildren, Morgan Cook, Meghan and Aeddan Jones and Isabella and Brooke Maxwell; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wilson Winters of New Jersey; a brother-in-law and his wife, Carl A. and Dorothy Wilson of Wilmington; and Mary Moser of Florida along with several other nieces. Also surviving, her extended family, Allen Cook, Jr., Judy Cook and their sons: Allen III, Dale and Shawn and their wives and children.
The family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Anthony D. Alfieri for his extraordinary care and concern. The family also wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Tonda Heath, Mrs. Wilson’s devoted friend, who through her kindness and compassion supported Mrs. Wilson through some difficult periods.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, March 4, 2011 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 5-8 Thursday evening. Interment services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday March 4, 2011 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
